Shingle colors
Architectural shingles come in blends, not flat colors, so the roof reads differently depending on the light and on what your brick or trim is doing next to it. These are the families we install most across North Georgia. Tap one to see it larger.
Screens shift color. Use these to narrow it down, then we bring physical sample boards to the house and hold them against your brick and trim before anything is ordered. Available colors depend on the manufacturer and the line we spec for your roof.
Choosing a color
This is the decision homeowners agonize over the most and get the least help with. Here is the short version of what we tell people standing in their driveway holding two sample boards.
Your brick, stone or exterior color is staying. The roof has to work with it, not the other way around. Red and orange toned brick fights cool gray and lands better under brown blends like Barkwood or Hickory. Tan, cream and lighter exteriors take Weathered Wood almost every time. Gray and white exteriors open up the whole range.
A dark roof visually pulls the roofline down and makes a tall house look more grounded. A lighter roof does the opposite and can make a low ranch feel taller. On a house with a lot of roof showing from the street, that difference is significant.
A dark roof does run hotter. In a Georgia summer that is real, but the size of the effect depends far more on your attic ventilation and insulation than on shingle color. Fix the ventilation and pick the color you actually want. If your attic is already marginal, a lighter blend like Driftwood or Pewter Gray helps at the edges.
A lot of subdivisions in Forsyth, Cherokee and North Fulton have an approved color list, and some require submitting the selection before work starts. It takes one email and saves a genuinely painful conversation later.
A three inch sample and eighteen squares on a roof do not read the same. Blends look more varied up close and more uniform from the street. Drive the neighborhood and find the color installed on a house near yours. We will tell you which streets have what, because we installed a fair amount of it.
Physical sample boards, held against your brick and your trim, in daylight. Screens shift color and no photograph on this page is a substitute for that. We do this before anything is ordered, and the choice is not final until you have seen the boards.
Available colors depend on the manufacturer and the product line we spec for your roof, so the final list comes with your written scope.
